Retaining Walls - Overview
The great adaptability of Shotcrete makes it extremely desirable for the construction of retaining walls. Our pneumatically placed methods allow us to save time and costs by installing either 1-sided or formless Shotcrete walls. Radius and free-form walls are also excellent candidates for Shotcrete. And the open front method gives the added advantage of allowing for a variety of architectural or artistic finishes to be applied as we shoot.
Soldier Pile Retaining Walls
Soldier Pile walls are a cost effective formless method of construction. After the steel piles are driven into the ground, timber lagging is applied to retain the soil and then tied in with reinforcing steel and finally shot with a Shotcrete facing. This open-face method allows for the application of a variety of architectural or artistic finishes. Our Shotcrete walls can also be fitted with architectural details such as integrated pilasters or corbels. Shotcrete soldier pile walls also easily conform to radius or free form designs and are the perfect choice to lay against the natural curve of a hillside.
One-Sided Form Retaining Walls
Freestanding 1-sided form Shotcrete walls are cost effective as they eliminate the need for the second form. The wall is formed only on the backside and then a Shotcrete facing is applied over reinforced steel. The open front method allows for texturing, sculpting and a variety of architectural and artistic finishes. We can also incorporate architectural details such as integrated pilasters and corbels. The flexibility of our Shotcrete methods make this type of application a perfect choice for radius and free form designs.
Sculpted Retaining Walls
Superior has developed a Shotcrete application to form sculptural retaining walls. The walls are sculpted to simulate rock, boulders or other patterns. Our method displaces conventional poured in place techniques that are more expensive and require the use of form liners to create the decorative pattern. Our sculptural retaining walls are highly sought after for residential and commercial use, however the cost effectiveness of our technique makes it equally attractive for large-scale public works projects. The attractive finish on these walls has gained them wide acceptance for placement along freeways and highways. Superior's monolithically sculpted techniques are an economical way to add interest to retaining walls.
